Cameron Norrie Hails 'Greatest Win' After Fighting Back from Behind to Beat Alcaraz in the Paris Masters

The British tennis star achieved the most important success of his career by rebounding from a early deficit to defeat top-ranked player Carlos Alcaraz 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 in the second round of the prestigious indoor tournament.

Even though he had previously defeated Alcaraz on two separate matches, this win represents Norrie's first ever win over a current world number one.

"Bouncing back from a physical setback last year, I fell in the opening stage of qualies here. I just tried to appreciate my game in the second half of the year. Norrie, positioned 31st globally, also ended Alcaraz's dominant run of nine consecutive finals and 17 consecutive Masters 1000 victories, which represented the top run of results in the young champion's early professional path.

The top seed looked to be progressing easily to a win early on as he eased past the first set. However, Norrie slowly battled back back into the game by serving with greater precision and engaging the Spanish opponent into prolonged, grueling exchanges. His unceasing shot tolerance and dependability slowly made an impact.

During large parts of the match, the world number one performed well on serve but he found it challenging to locate his rhythm on his baseline shots. The young star looked especially struggling hitting his primary weapon, which has been the most effective stroke in the world for much of this season, haemorrhaging 29 mistakes off the forehand side and a total of 54 unforced errors. On the other side, Norrie offered Alcaraz so few mistakes, keeping up his reliability, physicality and penetration the entire contest while serving efficiently and selecting opportunities to force himself forward and attack well.
