Vince Gilligan Shares He Knows How The Apple TV+ Show Might Finish... Currently.

The acclaimed writer-producer never anticipated that the Apple TV+ show would turn into a breakout success. “The viewers have been incredible,” Gilligan says. “I was surprised by the show being as talked about as it is, and it makes me deliriously happy.”

Now that Season 1 of the popular program wrapping up—and Season 2 officially in the works—the creative team recently discussed the fan response and whether it will impact the storyline of Pluribus.

About the Tremendous Viewer Reception

One could easily to get swayed by the widespread acclaim and online debates about Pluribus. Gilligan, however, is making a conscious effort to steer clear of all that.

“It's like being force fed something incredibly sweet and being laughing uncontrollably,” he says. “It's wonderful, but I get wind of it anecdotally, and that's intentional. I have never Googled myself, nor do I ever want to. Not because I don't care. It's a bottomless pit I know I would disappear down and then I'd be never leaving the house from Home Depot and I'd never leave my living room.”

In spite of trying to stay away, there’s no escaping the immensely favorable response to the series. The only approach for the writers is to take it in stride and try not to let it influence the direction of the show.

“We make no attempt to tailor anything,” says co-executive producer Alison Tatlock. “Our storytelling is not impacted by online forums.”

“It's wiser to keep our focus on the work,” Gilligan concludes.

The Big Question: Has the showrunner See the Conclusion of Pluribus?

Given that the creative staff are not listening by audience theories, can we assume they have mapped out how Pluribus will reach its endpoint? In short yes… sort of.

“We have some potential directions about how the story could conclude,” Gilligan reveals. “however, we remain prepared to abandon a solid concept for a better idea. That philosophy has guided us in excellent shape on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We scrap ideas when we get a better idea and I imagine we will be doing that.”

Alternatively, if plans fall through, executive producer Gordon Smith has a pretty funny idea to serve as a last resort.

“I constantly suggest that it's all in a snow globe, and that we'll reveal the snow globe and we're in there,” he says humorously, “but no one is buying it.”

Of course, one could always use the classics?

“My dream is Carol to open her eyes with Bob Newhart there,” he jokes.

Pluribus is streaming now on Apple TV+.
