Vince Zampella, who helped create the immensely successful video game Call of Duty, has tragically died in a car accident in California aged 55.

His passing was verified by Electronic Arts, the parent company of Respawn Entertainment, the development studio that he helped create.

The celebrated game designer died after his car crashed and caught fire on a freeway in Los Angeles on Sunday morning, as reported by.

"We are facing an unimaginable loss, and our deepest sympathies go to Vince's family, his loved ones, and everyone impacted by his legacy," an official with Electronic Arts stated.
