Zero Kieran McKenna Celtic Discussions as Craig Bellamy Pledges to Wales

Each have been linked with the coaching position at the Scottish champions following the former manager's resignation on Monday.

McKenna's Stance on Celtic

McKenna described the Glasgow giants as "an enormous soccer institution" but emphasized he is "deeply involved" of a "long-term project" with the Championship side.

The mid-thirties took charge of Portman Road in 2021 and led them to the Premier League with consecutive elevations, but they managed only four games last campaign as they were demoted back to the second division and they currently sit twelfth place in England's second tier.

"There have been such discussions," the London-born former Irish youth international said when asked about being on the candidate list.

"This isn't a matter I have given any thought to, or where any portion of my concentration is this week.

"I possess a unique position here at a special club. And we're at a really important stage of the campaign. Anything external hasn't reached my radar."

Context and Contractual Aspects

Reports indicate that the manager would be open to speaking to the Scottish side given his childhood support.

"Growing up, we all have our preferences," he said when questioned about those. "I don't think all people has to publicly and declare what they used to be, but naturally it's a massive sports organization."

The coach signed a fresh multi-year deal in 2024 and was asked about his alleged buyout clause.

"In every manager's contract, there are provisions," he responded. "I don't know what mine are and, were I informed, I wouldn't disclose you anyway!

"I approach this role like I will remain Ipswich manager indefinitely. I know that's not invariably going to be the case, but I will consistently give maximum effort as while I remain in position."

The Welsh Coach's Position

The former striker represented the Hoops on temporary transfer from the Magpies in the mid-2000s, but the ex- Welsh striker is minded to complete the current World Cup qualification, a stance that would effectively rule out the 46-year-old from immediately taking the Celtic job.

The Welsh squad are presently in third place in their World Cup group behind group toppers Belgium and second-placed North Macedonia.

Wins over Liechtenstein and North Macedonia in next month would secure their position in the final qualifying round, but they are all but guaranteed of reaching that stage, thanks to a productive European competition performance, even if they not end up their group second place.

Considering his present position, Bellamy, whose contract expires after the European Championship, would be unavailable until following the play-offs at the minimum.
